Medina Sod at Charlie O's

Saturday night was a full on rock fest at Charlie O's with Medina Sod - neither fresh off the road nor straight from the studio and with no fan fare whatsoever they took to the beer stained floor around 10 pm. Rocking ensued.

Because I know someone in the band I got a press pass and was able to get right up front where I captured this video.

Press play and turn it up peoples!!

The owl and the chicken ...

Our friends Todd and Alison have chickens - they now have 1 less. A big owl went in to the coup that had 13 chickens and a heat lamp in it and grabbed a bird. The owl dragged the chicken outside and was unable to lift it out of the wire fence enclosed " Chicken Exercise Area ". It remained on the dead chicken for a night and a day - snacking and napping. The following day Todd approached the owl with a shovel and 2 dogs - it still didn't budge and clicked its beak in defiance. When Todd tossed the carcass over the fence the Owl took up residence once again on the dead bird and snacked and napped for another night and day.The owl left once it could carry its kill.

Silas breaks his arm

The winter shredding on the mountain came to an end for Silas this week - he broke his arm over the weekend. At the hospital they tried with a local anesthetic to reset it but they were unable to stop the growth plate shifting out of position. Bein' young with a whole bunch more growin' ahead of him it was decided that the growth plate needed to be reset perfectly so we returned to the hospital yesterday for a some pins and a new cast. Silas was as rugged as could be and by 12.30 he was out of the anesthetic, dressed and heading for home with a purple cast.

The nurses were really friendly... They even had a girraff with no neck

After a some prep we went into the operating room - where we met the anesthesiologist. She was very a very cool lady.

Here's Silas chatting to her right before he nodded off..

An interesting side note.. Silas' nurse on his first visit was a young man who had lost his foot to cancer - and then broke his arm skateboarding. While he had the broken arm ( and now also missing a foot) he went longboarding ( a bigger faster skateboard ) and was hit by a bus - he broke the other arm AND lost the rest of the leg!!! He now has 4 special prosthetic legs for different activities - including a snowboarding leg with built in compression shocks and a climbing leg that had extend-able parts.

Snow

Lots of snow last night . Drove Silas to the mountain to snowboard and picked some friends of his up on the way - Wilson as shown below

Dropped them off and took Quinn out to " loose Cow lane " to see her friend.Lots of snow there as seen in these pictures.

Upon arriving at the friends house, the snowy madness continued and we knew it was going to be exciting, so the cameras were rolling - as shown in the following video.

Tired Poppy

The action packed day took its toll. Poppy yelled " someone get me a blanket" five times from grannys room and was ignored. She went to get it herself and didnt make it past the last step.

Silas Drives

We took the jeep out in the field this weekend to drag around some big logs. Silas mastered the clutch and the Jeep as a whole and by the end of the afternoon was giving rides to both Ashley and Quinn. They both screamed. Here he can be seen without any passengers.

Colours have been great. Here looking north up the Valley and down at the Warren School.

Bed Time for Poppy

Not content with 5 bedtime stories Poppy now reads to herself and then sleeps under an open book.Presumably literary osmosis is happening.
